The Scene in Boston

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

While I am in Boston for spring break, I plan to write a review of Acting Out: Social Experiments in Video, a show up at the Institute for Contempoary Art.  It will be in The Fanzine in April; look out for it.

Work-in-Progress Progress

Monday, March 16th, 2009

Things are cooking with Dicentra: The Movie, an ongoing project about Dicentra, a Portland-based collective “actively engaged in creating radical communities of care, networks of support, and movements based on relationship building.”  This project has a practical component, I upload documentation of their events to YouTube, and I plan to create a portrait piece about this collective, one that could be useful to other community organizers and general viewers.  Also it will take another form that will be more of an experimental video.  I like “observing” these guys; they’re brilliant and engaged with important community work.

One-time-use cameras for the neighborsThe letter to the neighborsblue-envelope-drop-sm

Good news: the neighbors are cooperating on Girl Next Door, a documentary-based project that involves interviewing my immediate neighbors and figuring out ways for them to participate in the creation of a video portrait of our micro-community.  I recently dropped off a bunch of one-time-use cameras at each of their houses.  I can’t wait to see the beautiful banality they document.
